Seit den 1980er Jahren kommen Flamingos zur Brutzeit ins Zwillbrocker Venn, ziehen ihre Jungen groß und verbringen die Wintermonate in den Niederlanden. Erst brütete in den 1980 Jahren hier nur der Chile-Flamingo, dann kam der Europäische Rosa Flamingo hinzu.
